The New BEVERLY HILLS DIET

“Two things fatten people: their social life and their emotional life” (63).

Theory:

The New Beverly Hills Diet is a lifestyle eating program. It is a weight loss program with no portion control and no forbidden foods.  The whole technique for eating is based on the thesis that when food is not properly digested, it turns into excess weight.  When you mix too many foods from the different food groups together (the proteins, the carbohydrates, the fats) – your basic balanced meal – you confuse the enzymes and this prompts a weight gain.   This diet offers a 35-day eating program.

Conscious Combining - it isn’t what you eat or how much you eat that makes you fat; it is when you eat and what you eat together:

1.                  Ideally, proteins go with proteins; carbohydrates go with carbohydrates; fruit must be eaten alone

2.                  Begin each day with a single enzymatic fruit from the list of fruits included in the 35-day weight loss plan – i.e., pineapple, strawberries, grapes, papaya, watermelon, mango, kiwi, persimmon, prunes, apricots or figs.

a.       You may eat as much of the fruit as you want, but eat just one fruit at a time – don’t mix grapes with strawberries, for example.

b.      Wait one hour before switching from one fruit to another fruit

c.       Wait two hours before eating food from another food group

d.      Once you eat food from another food group, do no eat fruit again for the remainder of the day

3.                  If the next food you eat after fruit is a carbohydrate, you may eat them without restriction until you eat a protein

4.                  Once you eat protein, no matter how small the amount – even if it is just milk in your coffee or chicken in your Caesar salad – 80 percent of what you eat for the balance of the day should be protein

5.                  Carbohydrates are carbohydrates – whether starch, vegetables, salads, cereals or grains – and, for the most part, they should not be combined with protein

6.                  Proteins are proteins – whether meat, fish, milk, yogurt, cheese, nuts, seeds or ice cream – and, for the most part, they should not be combined with carbohydrates

7.                  Fats such as butter, oil, mayonnaise, sour cream and heavy cream can be combined with either proteins or carbohydrates, but not with fruit

8.                  Eliminate diet sodas, artificial sweeteners, diet products containing artificial sweeteners and artificial additives, nondairy creamer and margarine.  Limit, if not eliminate, any foods with artificial additives

9.                  Most alcoholic beverages are carbohydrates (beer, bourbon, rum, vodka, scotch, tequila) and should, for the most part, be consumed only with carbohydrates; wine is a fruit and can be combined with other fruits; champagne is neutral and goes with anything

Conscious Compensation – Antidotes to be eaten for breakfast the day after eating:

  1. Greasy, creamy, cheesy foods (e.g., pizza, Mexican food, ice-cream binge, fried chicken, spareribs and fries):
    1. Burn with pineapple or strawberries
  2. Protein overdose (e.g., prime rib, steak, barbecue):
    1. Soften and digest with papaya or mango (papaya after meat, mango after fowl).
  3. Sweets (e.g., cake, cookies and candy):
    1. Scrub with grapes
  4. Salt overdose
    1. Wash with watermelon or mop with meat

Precedotes to be Eaten for Breakfast the Day You Know You are Going to be Eating the Following:

  1. Greasy, creamy, cheesy foods:
    1. Precede with pineapple or strawberries
  2. Salty foods:
    1. Breakfast on dried apricots

Golden Rules

  1. Weigh yourself every day, no matter what
  2. Fruit – start almost every day of your life with fruit. Once you have gone off fruit in the course, of the day, never, never ever go back to it
  3. The waiting time – when you go from fruit to fruit, wait one hour. When you go from one food group to another, wait two hours minimum (three would be better)
  4. Protein – Once you’ve eaten protein, eat at least 80 percent for the remainder of the day

Critical to achieving maximum weight loss is following the program exactly.  You can expect a 10 to 15 pound loss in the 35 days.
